Bristow Volunteers Create Masterpieces, Celebrate Birthdays with Big Brothers Big Sisters

For the second consecutive year, Bristow is the official Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) Birthday Sponsor, originally initiated in honor of Bristow's 60th birthday. The sponsorship includes a volunteer event which pairs Bristow employees with unmatched "Littles" on a waiting list for a mentor for a fun birthday party.

This year, the birthday celebration centered on creating masterpieces. Fifteen volunteers from Bristow’s Houston office and their Littles attended a class where they painted a portrait of a monster on canvas. As an instructor detailed each stroke, the volunteers and Littles painted along, chatted and enjoyed pizza.

"It was great experience being involved in the BBBS Birthday Celebration and spending time with the Littles," said IT Infrastructure and Architecture Director Gerry Wilson. "I enjoyed encouraging them to use their imaginary and artistic skills – all the children were very engaging and extremely funny. At the end of the day, I don't know who was more excited with their painting – the Littles or the Bristow volunteers. I suspect it was the Bristow volunteers! It was a very rewarding event and gave us all a reminder about the importance of being able to spend quality time with children and young adults who, unfortunately, do not have the support and mentoring that is so important to be able to achieve success in life."

"My son came home so excited, talking so fast about his experience," said the mother of one of the unmatched Littles who attended the event. "He said that his Big for the day was going to the University of Houston and that he wants to go there too. He said it was super fun and everyone was so nice! Thank you so much to Bristow and Big Brothers Big Sisters for providing this opportunity for my son."
